What are intradermal nevi?
Intradermal nevi are benign growths that occur in the middle layer of skin, known as the dermis. Intradermal nevi are typically small, round or oval-shaped, and have a smooth or slightly bumpy surface. They are usually uniform in color, ranging from light to dark brown, but they can sometimes be tan, pink, or black.
They are typically smaller than other types of moles and are usually less than 6 millimeters in diameter.
What causes intradermal nevi to form?
Intradermal nevi are thought to be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. People who have a family history of intradermal nevi or other types of moles are more likely to develop them.
Sun exposure, especially during childhood, is also thought to increase the risk of developing intradermal nevi.
